Transformer oil filtration
Under the term of operation of the transformer. Most often, liquid (transformer oils) and solid (paper, cellulose products, etc.) insulation systems are used. To maximally extend their life, it is necessary to clean the transformer oil.
Transformer oil performs important functions. First of all it serves as an insulating medium and, secondly, it removes heat from electrical equipment.
Various factors like air, high temperature, sun light, varnish insulation, paints, moisture and metals cause oxidation processes in oil. If the insulating medium is stabilized from the oxidizing effect, the oils will be able to work at a high temperature, and the insulation system.
Transformer oil aging
Usually the process of oil aging is inextricably linked with its oxidation. The entry into a transformer of oil of substances, such as oxygen and water, leads to its oxidation in the presence of ideal conditions. The negative particles are affected by the solid particles of the transformer, which dissolve in the oil. As a result, under the influence of heat, chemical reactions between unstable hydrocarbons, oxygen and water are activated – the oil gradually disintegrates.
The main enemies of solid insulation include heat, humidity and oxidation. If properly serviced cooling and insulation system, it is quite realistic to extend the age of the system for a period of 40 to 60 years. Part of this service is the cleaning of the transformer oil.
